Here at Masonboro Baptist Church, we believe that God is the benevolent creator of all that is and that everything created by God is as God pronounced it, “Good.” In love God gave men and women the freedom to choose to live in a joyous and fulfilling relationship with God, each other and all of creation. Through willful pride and with a desire to be rid of God’s loving and protective constraints humankind has brought disorder, disunity and death into every level of existence—self, family, nations and the entire created order. Unable to free ourselves from the consequences of this abuse of freedom, the Bible is the story of God’s redemptive effort to reclaim what has been lost working first through Abraham and his offspring, then through inspired prophets and finally through the perfect Priest and Mediator Jesus Christ, God’s own Son. Jesus is the full revelation of God whose life, teaching, death and resurrection is the decisive act of salvation which is able to restore unity, order and vitality to humanity and every part of creation. The resurrected Christ calls together all believers and bestows upon them the Holy Spirit, Christ’s empowering presence, so that the Church can be God’s redemptive instrument for justice, witness, discipleship, worship and mission.
THE CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body of Christ.
- We believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
- We accept the scriptures as the sole authority for faith and practice.
- We will nurture ourselves and our families in the teachings of Christ.
- We will strive to walk together in Christian love and to be just in our dealings and upright in our conduct, and will avoid practices that hinder the effectiveness of our witness.
- We will faithfully support this church, giving sacrificially of our time, talents, and financial offerings to further the cause of Christ in the world.
- We will help one another in time of need and remember each other in prayer.
- We will work together with all Christians to build God's Kingdom now and forever more.
