A long-held belief of mine is that numerical as well as spiritual growth, begins with the youngest among us. If that belief is accurate, then our greatest attention should be focused there in Sunday School. The best leaders and facilities should be appropriated for them. Also, outreach to and encouragement for their families cry out for our time and participation.
Last week as I watched Gene and Doris McQuery painting in the old sanctuary I realized that we are first of all blessed with some fantastic workers in the preschool and children departments. They are a capable cadre with willing spirits, and a love for the children, which is enviable. For them and their efforts we are both blessed and grateful.
The preschoolers meet in the education building and have a great facility. We need your prayers and input, however, for the children. Sarah Earle, Director of the children's department, has few peers with her commitment and concern for children and their relationship with God. Those who work with her reflect those same qualities. Our children’s workers weekly work not with our best facilities, but our least desirable. This is a need and concern for prayer!
Also, in these developing years, there is a need for their parents to make church attendance a priority. Regularly, we have young couples to visit in worship. If you are a young couple, please develop a habit each Sunday for looking for visiting couples, introduce yourself to them and help them be encouraged to participate with us. You can make a difference.
