Dr. Gordon Wright, Jr.
Pastor Gordon has been at Masonboro Baptist Church for over 30 years, starting out as the Youth Minister and eventually becoming the pastor. He is a graduate of Carson-Newman College, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Gordon loves seeing people's lives changed by discovering the truth and depth of Jesus' love for us and witnessing the joy and everyday practical benefit of living the Gospel life. When he has a day off, Gordon can be found spending time with his wife Judi or biking, kayaking, jogging, and tinkering in the garage. Former President Jimmy Carter is someone Gordon admires greatly because of his work in the areas of justice and social ministry.
Rev. Wes Hunter
Wes is a Wilmington native who grew right down the street from Masonboro Baptist Church. He graduated from UNC Wilmington, where he studied jazz guitar and earned his Master's of Divinity from the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University. Before coming to Masonboro, he served as Minister of Worship and Connections at The Bridge Presbyterian Church in Leland. Wes is married to Alexis and they have two boys, Mason and Banks, both of whom attend preschool at Noah's Ark. Wes gets excited about the Kingdom of God; about helping people and working for justice and peace. In his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his family, running, and playing the guitar.
Rev. Shirley Womble
Minister of Children, Families & Church Administration
Shirley and her husband Mike, who was her high school sweetheart and is also a minister, came to Wilmington from Virginia in 2001. They, along with their three daughters, love living near the coast. Shirley was a teacher prior to beginning her ministry at Masonboro. Her favorite thing about Masonboro Baptist Church is the friendly people who genuinely care for one another and all the beautiful children she has the opportunity to interact with every week. She is a graduate of Averett University and Campbell University Divinity School. Shirley's favorite pastime is gardening and she has a large collection of plants growing in her home's landscape.
Mr. Dan Faulkenberry
Director of Youth Ministries
Dan has been living in Wilmington for almost 10 years. He graduated from UNCW in 2013 with an English degree. He has been our youth director since December of 2013. After playing the drums in our contemporary service band for several months, Dan began leading the youth group on an interim basis, but things went so well he was offered the job permanently! Dan is currently earning his Masters in Teaching from UNCW with a focus in secondary education and has a true passion for working with teenagers. He still plays the drums on Sundays, loves movies, live music and never turns down a good slice of pizza!
Mr. Marcus Garner
Contemporary Worship Leader
Masonboro Baptist Church is blessed to have someone as unique as Marcus to lead our contemporary worship services. Marcus plays the guitar, sings, and leads our band with a genuine and kind-hearted spirit. Beyond his musical talents, Marcus enjoys gardening, particularly growing vegetables, as well as cooking and grilling. He also enjoys reading comic books handed down to him from his brother. While Marcus and his wife Leigh are both native Wilmingtonians, he would love to visit New York as well as visit parts of the country west of the Mississippi River. His motto is simple: work hard, live, and love- priorities he says he learned from his mother and grandmother.
